Wash your face twice a day

Please also note that washing your face excessively can make the skin too try and cause more pimples, so ensure you balance it all out.

Avoid scrubbing your face harshly and over-exfoliating

Stop using harsh washcloths, pads, or sponges to wash your face, because it can irritate your skin and cause more breakouts. Use a mild cleanser and with your hands or a soft brush meant for the face, gently wash your face.

Also, avoid over-exfoliating your skin in an attempt to remove dead skin cells. While exfoliation is good, too much of it can irritate your skin because you are removing the natural oil the skin needs. So your skin compensates for the loss by producing more oil which will clog your pores and cause more acne.

Exfoliate at most, twice a week.

Ensure your hair is clean

The excess oil from your hair can get on your face and cause even more breakouts. Regularly washing your hair will prevent acne from developing most especially, close to the hairline.

Be careful how you use products like hair gel and hairspray, so you don’t get it on your face. These products can also clog your pores, thereby causing pimples.

Avoid popping those pimples

As tempting as it may be to pick at that pimple, it is best to avoid doing such because it will only lead to inflammation and scarring.

To reduce the appearance of acne, use topical products instead, it may take a longer time to work, but it also helps prevent the pimple from coming back.

Apply topical treatments

Various over-the-counter creams and serums are available for tackling acne on different parts of the skin.

Over-the-counter products for tackling skin issues usually contain, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. These products may not be as potent as prescribed strength treatments, but they can help to prevent mild acne and limit breakouts.

Limit the intake of foods that cause acne

What you take inside your body also plays a major role in how your body will look on the outside. Foods with a high glycemic index are said to increase the chances of developing acne, or pimples.

These foods are usually sugary and high in carbohydrates, such as cookies, pies, cakes, etc.

Dairy products, especially skim milk, may also increase a person’s risk of developing acne. So as a test, you may want to cut down on certain food groups to monitor if your skin improves.

Ensure facial care products  are clean

First of all, it is advisable to use a separate towel for your face. Do not use the same towel you use for your body to clean your face. Most importantly, ensure your towel is always clean.

In addition, your makeup and facial sponges and brushes should be cleaned regularly with soap and water to prevent a buildup of bacteria, which could lead to acne.

Also, ensure that your brushes are completely dried before using them on your face after washing.

Avoid being stressed

Stress is a major contributor to acne. Once you’re stressed, it begins to show on your skin.

Stress usually causes inflammation, which can make breakouts worse.

Try to reduce your stress by meditating, exercising, relaxing before bed by reading or taking a bath, engage in the hobbies you love.
